Aloud reads anything to you: PDFs, Word documents, EPUBs, web pages, notes, and photos of text, at any speed from 0.5x to 5x. Here is how to get the most out of it and how to reach us.
Email daelynd1@gmail.com. For subscription questions, include the Support ID shown at the top of Aloud's Settings screen. We answer within two business days.
Adding something to read
- From another app: tap Share in Notes, Safari, Files, Mail, or Books, then choose Aloud in the row of apps. If Aloud is not in the row, scroll to the end, tap More, and turn it on.
- From Files or iCloud Drive: tap the plus button in Aloud and choose Import File.
- Any text: copy it, then tap the clipboard button at the top of the library, or ask Siri to "read my clipboard in Aloud".
- Supported formats: PDF (including scanned pages), Word, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, EPUB, RTF, HTML, Markdown, plain text, and images of text. Aloud looks at the file's contents, so a wrong extension does not matter.
Speed and voices
- Tap the speed chip in the reader to pick anything from 0.5x to 5.0x in steps of 0.1x. Changes apply mid-sentence and never change the pitch.
- Natural voices (Heart, Bella, Michael, Emma, George, and more) run on your iPhone after a one-time download. You pick one when you first open Aloud; change it any time from the voice button in the reader or in Settings.
- Aloud also offers the two best Apple voices installed on your iPhone. For better Apple voices, open the iPhone Settings app, Accessibility, Spoken Content, Voices, download an Enhanced or Premium voice, then tap Refresh Voices in Aloud's Settings.
- Tap any sentence in the reader to jump there. Aloud remembers your position in every document.
Listening in the background
Lock the screen or switch apps and Aloud keeps reading. Use the lock screen, Control Center, or your AirPods to pause, resume, and skip sentences. If audio stops when the screen locks, make sure Low Power Mode is off and that no other app has taken over audio.
Syncing between devices
- Accounts are optional. To keep the same library and reading positions on more than one iPhone, open Settings in Aloud and choose Continue with Apple or Continue with Google, using the same choice on each device.
- Deleting a document while signed in removes it from your other devices too. Signing out stops syncing and keeps the documents already on the device.
- Delete your account: Settings, Account, Delete Account. You confirm by signing in once more; Aloud then deletes everything synced to the account and the account itself. Your subscription is separate and is not cancelled.
Subscription
- Aloud Pro is an auto-renewing monthly subscription billed through the App Store. The price is shown in the app before you subscribe.
- Restore: if you reinstalled Aloud or got a new iPhone, tap Restore Purchases on the paywall or in Settings while signed in with the same Apple Account.
- Cancel or manage: open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, or visit apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the current period ends.
- Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Something not working?
- Update to the latest version of Aloud in the App Store.
- Force quit Aloud and open it again.
- For a document that will not open, send us the file type and, if you can, the file itself.
- For subscription trouble, send your Support ID from Settings.
Privacy
Without an account, your documents never leave your iPhone. Signed in, they sync through your Aloud account. Read the privacy policy for exactly what the app sends, and the terms of service for the rules that cover the app, your account, and the subscription.
